Music can create moods, and what better way to showcase that than with a movie music lesson– especially when it’s free! This free elementary music lesson will be the hit of your fourth and fifth grade music lessons– especially in the Springtime (I like to do movie music at the end of the year).
For this Movie Music bracket lesson, all you need is the FREE bracket. This is available in the Free Resource Library, along with many other activities that you can use with your students.

When to Use the Free music bracket:
- March: Brackets evoke March Madness, so if you’re looking for a way to incorporate music intothe games, this could be a great option!
- End of the school year: I always like to use movie music at the ned of the year. It’s great for keeping students’ attention AND it means we can talk about Star Wars music for Star Wars day (May the Fourth be with You)
- During testing: Need something to keep kids quiet? Or to use in the teachers’ classrooms? This is a perfect quiet music lesson for testing season, and it’s easy to take to someone elses’ classroom (I usually just email it to them)
- Instruments of the Orchestra: I like to use movie music to tie in with instruments of the orchestra. We can talk about instrument families while we are listening to the music that incorporates them.
Using the Movie Music Lesson
The free elementary music movie music lesson is super easy to implement– just throw it on the screen!
- Play two adjacent pieces of music
- Have students vote for which on they prefer
- The winner moes up until you only have one left
Thats it!
When it comes to voting, students can raise their hands for one and then the other, or you can have students hold up a one for the first one you listen to and a two for the second. I find the second option easier because I can count both at the same time.
